Web Design and Presidential Politics

My husband sent me this link:
http://www.badassideas.com/blog/2008/02/03/evolving-design-in-politics-the-brand-of-obama/

Aside from being a really, really long URL, it's a somewhat interesting look at the campaigns. I think the bit I found most interesting was that it's a big secret who works on what...

On the other hand, I find the 80 zillion variations of the Obama logo a little too much.

See: http://www.underconsideration.com/speakup/archives/004262.html

Maybe in context they work, but as a set... too trite for me. I like my politics less earnest! That's part of the Obama marketing spin though.. earnest change.

Also, funny funny (old-- this summer) assessment of the '08 candidate logos, very reminiscent of the books of Scott McCloud : http://www.nytimes.com/slideshow/2007/11/18/opinion/20071118_OPART_15.html

Unfortunately my husband just made me feel sad that I'm never going to be the kind of designer who works on stuff like that. :P
